Point of View

Except for the "Cathedral" reading, I really enjoyed the rest of the stories. I also learned a few things this week that went along with our quiz.

I never really paid much attention before to the point of view of a story. I learned from our book that to identify a story's point of view, you describe the role the narrator plays in the events and any limits placed on his or her knowledge of the events.

I also found unique the types of narrators.
Participant-writes in first person
Nonparticipant-write in the third person

The list is rather long and can be defined by how much the narrator knows to other narrative points of view......

I also like the books thoughts and elements of setting. It continues to help me actively read.

  2. Hey, Katy --

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about "Cathedral." It's often a class favorite, and I kind of take that for granted sometimes. It would be good to hear another perspective.

  3. The story "Cathedral" was not my favorite. I just didnt think it had a point. Behind all the drugs and drinking. Granted it was not excessive it was still there. You would think I would be okay with it as a recovering addict myself but still after being sober 8 years it was just something I didnt want to read. Mainly because it didnt have any meaning to me. Do we really believe that the husband is going to wake up in the morning and like Robert....my guess would be not. Hes hardly going to remember or care. He will go back to the same old lazy, rude and stubborn man he was in the begining of the story.
